Adult Christian Formation

Adults are formed as Christian disciples from the time they are baptized. Our formation begins with education, where we learn the rudiments of Christian responsibility, Scripture and our tradition. But we are also formed by our worship, prayer life, fellowship, service to others, and the sharing of our spiritual journey in a community of faith. At St. Timothy’s, adults have a variety of opportunities to learn, explore, reflect and share as they are formed into the Body of Christ.

“Epiphany of the Church”
January 13, 20, 27 and February 3
10:00 a.m. - 10:50 a.m.

Throughout history the church has continually changed and grown. Some of these changes have been slow and steady marches to a new way of seeing things, and others have been schismatic shifts that have radically changed the church very quickly. This group will explore some of these changes, and take a look at the current church to see where the growing edges might be. Who knows, we may be on the eve of Reformation, and not yet be aware of it.

 - Led by Jamie Ellis, Minister of Youth, Children and Families

For most people, the Lenten concepts of repentance, forgiveness and redemption can seem very abstract. But these themes are woven all throughout many noted novels and short stories, particularly those of our beloved Southern writers. During these classes, a reading will be presented, which will be followed by discussion, inviting those present to share their insights and discoveries.

-Facilitated by Carol Corrington, Tony Hullender and Dave Mathewson.

Education for Ministry

Education for Ministry is a program of theological education-at-a-distance of the School of Theology of the University of the South. Students sign up one year at a time for this four-year program. It covers the basics of a theological education in the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy, and theology. Students meet regularly, once a week, in seminars under the guidance of trained mentors. The program grants a certificate at the completion of the four years and 18 Continuing Education Units for each year's work.

-Led by Valerie Gibson and Bobbe Spink

Book Study Group
Wednesdays, 11:00am

This lively group gathers weekly and enjoys the fellowship of challenging dialogue. They choose the books they wish to study together from all disciplines, fiction and
non-fiction, classics and modern novels, and trace their theological themes.

That which we have heard and known, and what our forefathers have told us, we will not hide from their children.

We will recount to generations to come the praiseworthy deeds and the power of the Lord, and the wonderful works he has done.
