All children of St. Timothy’s and Signal Mountain are invited to join our choir program. As a parent, you are making choices for your child’s growth in cognitive thinking ability as well as choosing paths for a fulfilled life. Studies show that children who learn music develop higher cognitive functions more readily, and there are some areas that only music can develop. The music we explore comes from the best choral traditions and curriculums; it is challenging and well crafted. With it we expose our children to new worlds of sound and teach a discipline that will serve them well both in school and later during their careers. GOD’S
CHILDREN SING CHERUB CHOIR Our director of these choirs is Kerri Ellis, who is trained in MusikGarten curriculum and will incorporate many techniques (including Orff) in her lessons. These choirs are designed to lay a foundation of love of music and ability to understand basic reading, rhythm, and pitch skills. No formal performing requirements are expected of these groups, although the latter may occasionally participate in special holiday pageants or services. ST.
TIMOTHY’S CHORISTERS There are two opportunities for the Choristers to rehearse each week (except during school breaks). The choir sings at both the 9:00 and 11:00 services, but not on the same Sunday. Special services are announced. The director of the Choristers is Philip Newton, Director of Music Ministries. Additional opportunities for Choristers include participating in the Royal School of Church Music curriculum and summer courses, as well as local summer choir camps and group field trips to special performances. Choristers also work with Orff Instruments. Highlights of the coming season include: v attending a special young people’s dress rehearsal of the opera “Hansel and Gretel,” performed by the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra and Opera at the Tivoli Theatre on Tuesday, 29 January 2008, 7:00 p.m. v a joint Evensong with junior choirs from St. Paul’s and Good Shepherd churches at St. Timothy’s on Sunday, 13 April 2008, 6:00 p.m. ST. TIMOTHY’S CHIME CHOIR A highlight of the coming season includes: v a joint Evensong with adult choirs at St. Timothy’s on Sunday, 23 September 2007, 4:00 p.m. v “Hansel and Gretel” as described above
The St. Timothy's Choir supports the 11:00am worship service every Sunday and is open to ages 12 to 102 who feel called to participate in worship through music. We are always looking for new choir members and we hope that you will join us.
