Thrift Shop

St. Timothy’s Thrift Shop is the oldest continuous mission of the parish, operated since the 1950s by the Women of St. Timothy’s (WOST). Located directly across Mississippi Avenue from the St. Timothy’s, the Thrift Shop offers good, clean, used clothing and small household items at minimal prices.

The Thrift Shop is a service to the community, but with the income from these recycled goods, WOST also funds its programs and outreach to a number of worthy causes, both inside and outside the parish. In 2002, a $13,000 budget is earmarked for 17 different agencies, ranging from scholarships to the Interfaith Hospitality Network (temporary housing for the homeless) to the Sexual Assault Crisis and Resource Center.

The Thrift Shop began as a fund-raising rummage sale held out of the back of station wagons on Saturday mornings. Soon it was a regular enterprise, finding a home in the back room of a nearby store for a number of years. In 1979 the church used bequest funds to construct a building for the Thrift Shop and several improvements have been added in the years since.

The Thrift Shop has a part-time manager, Elisa Templeton, but most of the sorting, pricing and selling is done by volunteers. The shop is open Wednesdays from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Hours of operation:

Wednesdays from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Fridays and Saturdays
 from 9:00 to 1:00 p.m.

Charity begins at home, but should not end there.
