Women of St. Timothy's

The Women of St. Timothy’s is a branch of the Episcopal Church Women. Its objective is to promote the mission of the church in the home, parish, community and beyond with worship, prayer, study and gifts.

There are opportunities for fellowship and learning at two luncheon and two dinner meetings each year.

W.O.S.T. maintains and operates the Thrift Shop which provides funds for various projects, such as: Camp Billy Johnson, Church Women United, Community Kitchen, ECSET-Metropolitan Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, Hosanna Community, Hospice, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Molly Tucker Scholarship, Rape Crisis Center, The Sanctuary, and the Signal Mountain Women’s Conference. Within St. Timothy’s we provided the Connie Boyle Preschool Scholarship, funded kitchen appliances, and contributed to the discretionary funds for the Rector and Associate Rector. In addition W.O.S.T. contributes to the East Tennessee ECW.

We sponsor the annual Christmas luncheon for the Widow’s Harvest Ministry and the October birthday tea at St. Barnabas Nursing Home. There have been three interdenominational women’s conferences on Signal Mountain in the last four years. Representatives from W.O.S.T. have been involved in the planning and running of the conferences and several of our members have participated as presenters.

The Rev. Kathryn Mathewson led a weekend retreat at St. Mary’s Conference Center in March 2003. In March of 2004 the retreat was led by the Rev. Margaret Marshall, and in March of 2005 it was led by Kathy Tugman.  Approximately 22-25 women attend these annual retreats..

A board of dedicated women carries out the work of W.O.S.T. with additional help from the membership. It is because of their generous gifts of time and energy that we are able to operate the Thrift Shop and participate in other parish activities.

All the women in the parish are invited to attend W.O.S.T. meetings and encouraged to volunteer to work at the Thrift Shop. We are grateful for the contributions of clean clothes in good condition as well as toys, books and small household items.

MISSION, VISION AND GOALS

MISSION

The National Board of the Episcopal Church Women exists to support all women in their Mission and Ministry in the World.

VISION

Our vision for all women of the Episcopal Church is that we become a vibrant blend of all ages, coming together as a peacemaking, healing part of the Church. We aspire to be a God spark* - shining and sharing the love of Christ.

GOALS

• To strengthen lines of communication through the Communiqué, website and diocesan and provincial visitations.
• To establish Women of Vision and Call to Action programs in every diocese.
• To encourage familiarity with and participation in programs offered by Episcopal Church Women.

*God spark (from the Enneagram) – the core self, the part of us made in God’s image, the spirit, soul.

Adopted by the 2003-2006 ECW National Board during the Nov. 7-14, 2003 meeting
